Agnès Harris

I am Agnès Harris, an Essex-based artist specialising in acrylic, mixed media and ceramics. Originally from the South of France, I have called the Dengie Peninsula home for the past 30 years. My work sits somewhere between abstraction and reality—or perhaps more accurately, reality as I experience and feel it. Through bold, expressive and vibrant pieces, I hope to inspire curiosity, reflection and connection.

Art has always been my way of understanding and expressing the world around me. Three years ago, during a pause from work, I made the decision to devote myself to creating art full time. I haven’t looked back. Since then, I have exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions, and I continue to paint every day, always exploring new ideas and techniques.

My inspiration comes from life itself—the people I love, music, the tranquillity of the river, and the beauty of the Dengie landscape. I am particularly fascinated by the ECODs (East Coast One Designs), whose elegance on the water never fails to inspire me. My love of Delft pottery also led to my Delft Series, while artists including Magritte, Picasso, Léger, Cézanne, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe continue to influence my creative journey.

I love to experiment with shape, colour and texture, allowing ideas to grow through memory, association and personal interpretation. When I paint, I feel completely present and free. My hope is that each piece invites you to pause, connect, and perhaps see the world a little differently.
